Submission Tips
Want your submission to stand out and earn votes? Follow these five tips for writing compelling submissions that gain traction on the Request Board.
-
1
Write an Original Description
Do not copy the publisher blurb. Write your own 2-3 sentence summary that captures the core premise and emotional hook of the book. Personal enthusiasm is more persuasive than marketing copy.
-
2
Explain the Visual Potential
In the "Why Should This Become a Movie?" field, describe what makes this book cinematic. Think about settings, action sequences, visual motifs, or emotional moments that would translate powerfully to the screen.
-
3
Include Strong Comparables
Naming comparable films helps voters instantly understand the tone and audience. "If you loved Arrival and Interstellar, this book is for you" is far more effective than a generic description.
-
4
Choose the Right Genre
Selecting the most accurate genre helps your submission reach the right audience. If a book spans multiple genres, choose the primary one. Genre-specific voters are more likely to engage with well-categorized submissions.
-
5
Verify It Has Not Been Adapted
Before submitting, use our Search page to check whether the book already has a film adaptation in our archive. Submissions for books that already have widely-released adaptations will be declined. Books with only optioned or in-development status are still eligible.
Community Voices
Hear from community members whose submitted books gained traction on the Request Board.
"I submitted The Jasmine Throne on a whim, and within a week it had over 200 votes. The community here genuinely cares about diverse stories getting adapted. Seeing it climb the rankings felt like proof that readers can influence what gets made."
"I have been recommending Piranesi to everyone I know for years, but submitting it here gave it a platform. The vote count keeps climbing, and I genuinely believe the demand signal from BookToMovies could help it get picked up. This is the kind of tool readers have needed."
"As a book blogger, I have always wanted a way to show publishers and studios that there is real audience demand for certain adaptations. BookToMovies gives me hard numbers to point to. My submission of The Echo Wife has nearly 200 votes and counting."
